Although
Newsome & Dheilly offers
the full spectrum of services within the Human Resources field,
we have focused in the area of Labour Relations. Our programs are
all encompassing whereby the Client is not only provided with a
service but is left with a real understanding of why and how
the services have been done. Major areas of service include,
but are not limited to:
1.
Grievance Handling: Our Company can assist in the
case management of grievances. This service can include the actual
physical handling of the grievance; providing opinions on the validity
of a grievance or grievances; negotiating or mediating settlements
to grievances; and, minimizing grievances in the workplace through
education (in the case of supervisors and managers).
2.
Flat-Fee Arbitration: We provide arbitration services
on a pre-agreed flat-fee basis which includes: reviewing the case;
interviewing witnesses; writing an opinion of the case; attending
mediation where applicable; and, presenting the case at the arbitration
hearing. We also ensure the implementation of any award.
3.
Contract Negotiations:
Our Company can offer assistance in all areas of collective bargaining.
We prepare the actual proposals based on a review of the client's
needs, expectations and past history. We meet with the Client's
Negotiating Committee to explain the proposals, ensure that they
are understood and that the issues as viewed by the Client have
been addressed. We then act as Chief Spokesperson at the bargaining
table, and guide the negotiations through to the final settlement.
Should
an organization find itself heading into a strike, we can provide
the strategy and logistics assistance necessary to an organization.
4.
Contract Interpretation Sessions: Our Company can
offer interpretation sessions with staff to assist in the understanding
and application of a collective agreement. We can offer this service
in a large group setting, or in smaller numbers. We provide actual
examples of how specific clauses in an agreement are to be interpreted,
and provide ample opportunity for questions and answers.
5.
Labour Relations Training: Our Company can custom
design and deliver training to organizations that will improve the
ability of their staff to effectively work within a unionized environment.
These programs go beyond contract interpretation and address issues
such as effective union/management relations, conflict management,
assessing appropriate discipline, and others as relevant to the
Client.
6.
Overall Labour Relations Function: We also offer
a full labour relations function which is handled on a contract
basis. We meet with the Client to tailor-make a service that meets
the Client's realities and is cost effective. We can, if requested,
deliver this service in a hands-on manner in which we teach the
Client how to handle their own labour relations matters on their
own.
